Murder accused ‘intimidated’ me, says witness

A WITNESS in a murder committal hearing said he felt intimidated when he gave evidence in front of the three co-accused.

Ian Schutz  yesterday struggled to answer questions from defence lawyers while he was sitting in clear view of the men who have been charged with torturing and killing Shaun Matthew Barker in December 2013.

Mr Schutz told Brisbane Magistrates Court he felt intimidated by the men as they watched him give evidence.

"I feel intimidated," Mr Schutz said.

"I'm not handling this very well."

The magistrate presiding over the hearing ordered two screens be placed in front of the dock containing Cooloola Cove residents Stephen John Armitage,  45, Stephen's son Matthew Leslie Armitage , 22, and Highfields resident William Frances Dean, 37.

The men have been charged with murder, deprivation of liberty and torture.
