Needles fly for Prossie war vets centenary

AS PROSERPINE'S veterans prepare for Remembrance Day ceremonies tomorrow, the region's libraries are asking for your help to commemorate all those who have served their country.

They're aiming to contribute as many as 5000 knitted and crocheted poppies to a total of 62,000 for the spectacular Remembrance Day 2018 installation at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra to mark the Centenary of the end of WWI. The number represents the loss of Australian lives in the war.

Prossie Poppies group meets every second Friday of the month from 1.30-3pm.

Yarn is provided and some needles are available.

There are also recommended published patterns available at the library, or you can access patterns online at 5000poppies.wordpress. com/poppy-patterns/.

Meanwhile, Proserpine is holding two special events to commemorate Remembrance Day.

The first is a ceremony at the Proserpine Cenotaph from 10.45am, followed by the opening of a military display at the Proserpine Museum from 2pm.
