Nerd is the Word: Billionaire says life is lonely with money

THE argument that money doesn't lead to happiness was reignited when the billionaire behind Minecraft, Markus Persson, complained money had left him lonely and lacking in motivation.

His computer game became a hit around the world, so much so that Minecraft merchandise can be bought in most department stores.

Minecraft is all about creating and demolishing things using blocks, from sky fortresses to complex underground pathways. It's an open world incorporating different terrains.

The creator sold the game to Microsoft about a year ago for $2.5 billion and he announced on Twitter recently that "the problem with getting everything is you run out of reasons to keep trying".

Well, I've developed a list of things Mr Persson could do with his extra cash:

  • It's Christmas and sadly there are many families out there struggling to even put food on their tables. Make a donation the average person couldn't afford. Maybe an iPad for their teenage son or daughter.

  • Start businesses in areas you're passionate about, Mr Persson! You obviously have good ideas!

  • Visit schools or universities and inspire young people to reach their goals.

  • Buy a holiday home and invite people in need to stay there and recuperate for a week, for free.

  • Donate, donate donate! To lots of charities.

  • Keep working. Not for the money, but because you love what you do.

The biggest leaders in tech always come to the same conclusion.

When you have all the money in the world, the only viable thing left to do is to give it away.

Take Mark Zuckerberg, for example - he donated 99% of his Facebook shares to further human advancement.
