Netballers back on court

NETBALL

WHITSUNDAY junior netballers took to the court for the first time in 2011 last Wednesday at the Whitsunday Sports Park.

The evening also marked the sign-on for senior and netters (8-10 years) and fun-net (5-7 years).

Whitsunday Netball Association coaching convener and under 14s coach Trish McHugh said she was very pleased with the first week of competition.

“It went unbelievably great,” she said.

“We had so many kids turn up.”

With two games of netball taking place for the 13s, 14s and 15s age groups, McHugh said these were great signs for the year ahead.

“It's a big improvement on last year,” she said.

“The numbers were fantastic.”

Although numbers were great for juniors, only seven senior teams registered on the night.

McHugh said the association hoped to have at lest 10 teams for the season ahead which runs all the way through until September.

The final grading night for seniors will be held at the Whitsunday Sports Park netball courts next Wednesday.

Any interested players are urged to head to the courts to register a team or as an individual before competition starts the following week.
