New basketballers thriving in league
BASKETBALL: The PCYC Under 16s basketball team is achieving great things.
Most of the team is new to the sport this year and did exceptionally well when matched against the older, stronger Mackay Renegades in the recently played league finals.
Coach Matthew Doherty said the final score was Whitsunday 39, Mackay 52.
"We gave them a good fight, with the Renegades just pulling away in the final quarter,” he said.
"The team's hard work every Monday in training has paid off, with the new players really improving massively since the start of the season.”
The PCYC is made up of boys as young as 13 who have never played in a game prior to this league.
There are three boys from last year and the rest are all new to the game.
Coming from the participation in the league, three of the guys have been recruited to take part in trials for the regional team, including Harrison Sherington, Jordon Bannister and Storm Edwards.
