New classroom to support school’s growth

WHITSUNDAY Christian College opened the doors of a new prep classroom on Monday to accommodate increasing student enrolments.

Whitsunday Christian College principal Nathan McDonald said the new classroom would enable the school to expand to have three prep classes next year.

"The building features the latest state of the art technology with the inclusion of an interactive smart board and the classroom is designed as a bright, colourful space to promote learning," he said.

"There is also a new withdrawal area where students have access to seven computers to complete extra work and they can make the most of increased one-on-one learning support individually or in small groups."

Mr McDonald said funding for the $447,000 development was provided by the federal and state government with additional funds raised by the school.

He said there were future plans to construct a music room above the prep classroom in 2014.

"We would also like to build new primary classrooms to keep up with expected growth in our primary school and a staff common room," Mr McDonald said.

"We have applied for funding for these projects through the Block Grant Authority (BGA) and will be receiving a response in December this year."

Mr McDonald said should funding be approved all projects would go ahead next year.
