New Flaming Lips album out now

AFTER years in hiatus, psychedelic rockers The Flaming Lips have a new album this year. The band's last album of original material, The Terror, was released in 2013. The band had collaborated with other artists since but had not produced anything alone.

Band member Wayne Coyne (pictured) has explained the meaning of the album's name, Oczy Mlody, in a YouTube video that can be viewed on The Flaming Lips website.

"The name of our album is called Oczy Mlody. I've never heard a Polish person say it, yet," he said in the video.

"At first it appealed to us because it sounded like a drug - oxycodone or whatever that drug is."

The band was later told the Polish phrase meant "eyes of the young".

"We wouldn't like the title, eyes of the young, but we liked this other jumbled words that sounded really cool could mean that. So that was the beginning of us starting to use these cool-sounding Polish words," he said.

Music website Vulture described it as "trippy as hell".

The album was released on Friday, along with offerings from The xx and one for the metal fans, Sepultura.

I See You is the latest offering from British trio The xx, following the self-titled debut in 2009 and Closer in 2012. Sampling Halls and Oates in the single, On Hold, the band has certainly found a more upbeat tempo than in previous singles and still relies on the dual vocal talents of singers Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim.

Machine Messiah will be Sepultura's 14th studio album. A Blabbermouth reviewer described it as "adventurous" with lashings of thrash, power metal and even soul thrown in for good measure.
