Insane footage of dramatic truck crash
DRAMATIC new footage has captured the moment a chicken farm truck skidded over a busy motorway spraying debris onto stunned peak hour drivers below.
The incredible video, obtained by Channel 9, shows the driver - who was passing over a freeway entry ramp in Melbourne's northwest - losing control, smashing into the safety barriers and almost falling onto the busy road underneath.
A huge chunk of the truck can been seen dropping onto a busy motorway along with pallets of chicken products. Fortunately there was a break in the traffic.
A man has been taken to hospital following the dramatic crash, which took place at about 5.30pm yesterday and left the truck rolled and dangling from a bridge.
The large white vehicle is believed to have struck a side barrier on the Green Gully Road overpass at Keilor, police said.
The tail-end of the truck has been left hanging precariously over the Calder Freeway, with footage showing its load littered on the road below.
The male driver has been taken to Footscray Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No one else was injured and the cause of the crash is not yet known.
The crash caused significant peak-hour delays last night, with outbound traffic pushing back onto the Tullamarine Freeway.
Roads were closed and diversions were in put place while emergency services cleaned up the scene and, this morning, two cranes were brought in to clear the wreckage.
However, the inbound lanes of the freeway have been reopened and reduced to 60km/h, after the installation of water-filled safety barriers and the removal of the hanging truck.
A VicRoads spokeswoman told the Herald Sun crews from VicRoads, Metropolitan Fire Bridge, Victoria Police and Powercor worked through the night.
