New Post Office unlikely

MORE than six months has passed and Airlie Beach is still without a post office.

A national tender process in March failed to attract a successful tender making it look more unlikely that a post office will reopen in Airlie Beach.

Despite this, Australia Post continues to say it is committed to operating a post office in Airlie Beach.

“While this is extremely disappointing, we continue to remain wholeheartedly committed to operating a post office in Airlie Beach in the long-term,” spokesperson Simone Kurtz said this week.

“In the meantime, we have approached Airlie Beach Day and Night Chemist who has generously offered to operate a post point to ensure the community has access to general postal products and stamps.

“The post point is currently being manufactured and will be installed in the Airlie Beach Day and Night Chemist within the next month.

“We apologise for the inconvenience currently being experienced while we work hard to find a solution that will best service the community.”

Ms Kurtz said anyone interested in buying the licence to operate the post office should call 13 13 18 or send an email to airliebeach@auspost.com.au
