IS IT a bird? Is it a Tiger Moth? No, it's even better - it's the Yak-52 and Whitsunday pilot Nick Rorison is ready to take passengers up in it to experience thrilling aerobatics.

The new craft, a Yakovlev (Yak)-52 Soviet air force trainer, has replaced the region's beloved Tiger Moth which was a write-off after an incident two months ago.

On July 2, Mr Rorison was forced to make an emergency landing at Funnel Bay after encountering an unknown issue with the plane's propeller. The community hailed him a hero after safely landing the craft leaving him and his passenger, Steve Bell, unscathed.

"When I landed on the beach, we had high tides and the aircraft was submerged," he said. "It wasn't a write-off because of the crash but because of the water damage."

Mr Rorison has since purchased the Yak, from the previous owner in Mackay and said it was "a lot of fun to fly".

The business has been renamed CQ Adventure Flights.

"After the incident, I made the decision to come back bigger and better with a more modern machine," he said. "It's good to be back with a product I can be proud to operate and we can do a lot more than what we previously offered."

Coloured bright red with a white and black design, it won't be hard to spot the Yak from the ground. For more visit tigermoth adventures.com.au or call 49469911.
