New venue named for Fight Night

AIRLIE Fight Night IV will go outdoors this year, with a new venue named for the action-packed event.

The Whitsunday Sportspark's netball courts will be the place to be on May 9, with event organiser Luke Anderson anticipating the "biggest one yet".

In previous years Airlie Fight Night has been held at the Whitsunday PCYC; however the venue was unable to continue this arrangement.

"PCYC have been good to us but this time they've had problems higher up in regards to fighting. They've been helpful but we just can't do it there anymore," Mr Anderson said.

The silver-lining to the venue dilemma is now Airlie Fight Night can expect bigger crowds.

Last year's event welcomed about 1200 fans however Mr Anderson predicted this year's crowd could be as big as "1500-2000" people.

"It [the netball court] is an amazing venue. It's outdoors so it will be a lot cooler and we can fit twice as many people," he said.

"The last couple have been too crowded so it will be good to get outside."

The fight card for the night is still to be confirmed however Mr Anderson promised it would be the "biggest one we've had yet" with a host of local names set to feature.

Tickets for Airlie Fight IV can be purchased from Scissor Sisters, Killer Signs, Airlie Fitness or online through Moshtix.
