New Year’s Eve not a big one for police

WHITSUNDAY Police were generally pleased with the behaviour of locals and visitors to town on New Year's Eve.

Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Simon Walter, said for the amount of people out, "people were quite well behaved".

Throughout the night, police conducted a special New Year's Eve operation titled 'Mackay Mangrove', which ran from 6pm-6am.

A total of three people were given move-on directions in the Airlie Beach CBD and there were 13 arrests. Five drug charges were laid and there were nine public order offences. These included two incidents of public nuisance with violence, three of resisting police and one arrest for contravention of a banning notice. A total of five infringement notices were issued throughout the night.
