Newsagency now open in Airlie

RESIDENTS of Airlie Beach and Whitsunday visitors will be glad to hear that the new newsagency, NewsXpress is now up and running.

The main street of Airlie Beach has been without a newsagency since the previous one closed at the end of May.

The newly fitted-out store is on the corner of Shute Harbour Road and Waterson Way.

NewsXpress marketing manager Jenni Wasson believes the new store will offer services that local residents have been missing for the past few months.

“It will complete the town,” she said.

“It's great to be offering the service of having a newsagency again, right in the centre of the main street.”

The store opened its doors to the public on Monday but it will be hosting its official grand opening this Saturday from 7am-6pm.

The theme for the store's grand opening is “celebration”.

The store manager is Joanne Harvey who will be joined by Tracey Botto, Jan Rehbein and Robyn Simpson. The staff of the new NewsXpress store were the old sales team at the recently closed Airlie Beach newsagency.

The day will include a sausage sizzle, sponsored by Rotary and Whitsunday Transit.

There will also be a special appearance by the Hallmark “Friendly Forever” Bear.
