Next stop a new visitor centre

THE underutilised and unloved Sarina Railway Station is about to get a facelift and become the focal point for all tourists entering the Great Whitsunday region.

Yesterday, Mackay Regional Council awarded a $855,117 contract to WHF Group to refurbish the station, as well as car parking, amenities, pathways and new landscaping.

Major civil and landscaping works are already underway as part of a separate $1.4million contract given to Vassallo Construction in late July.
