Nicholas lives up to cycling status
PROSERPINE cyclist David Nicholas is the toast of the Australian Paralympic team today after winning a gold medal in road cycling at London.
Nicholas lined up today as the reigning world champion for the C3 time trial and he lived up to his status as pre-race favourite.
"Bit of both, but more confidence," said Nicholas when asked if being world champion added pressure.
"I was hungry for it because my results on the track were not quite what I wanted."
Nicholas, 19, who was the only Australian in the track team who missed out on a medal and that stoked his desire to ride well on the road.
His victory sparked a flood of hero messages to the Australian team.
"David you are a star and a winner and should be so proud of being there! Best wishes for your road events," was the message from an Airlie Beach supporter.
