Nicholas presents award
FOR the first time at the Proserpine State School this year, the David Nicholas Sports Person of the Year was awarded.
The namesake of the award, twin gold medal winning Paralympian David Nicholas was on hand to present the joint winners Ryan Bennett and Jay O'Loughlin with their award at the end of year school awards ceremony last week.
Nicholas said he felt "so honoured to have an award named after me” and he congratulated the the young rugby league and athletics achievers on their performance this year.
Principal of the Proserpine State School Rob Templeton said the boys had been selected for representative rugby league teams and both had also made the rep athletics teams.
"It's a great achievement for them to make both teams,” he said.
Mr Templeton said the awards night was important to acknowledge the achievements of students this year.
"Our choir (also) had an outstanding year and the rugby league development program started this year as well.”
The Principal Academic Award for Excellence was shared between Breeana Mackay and Joey Taylor and the Exceptional Achieve- ment Award (sponsored by Hamilton Island) was won by Mac Rogers.
