Night of nights

IT'S one of the biggest nights of the year for any Airlie Beach Rotarian and this Thursday they plan to show off just how great it is to be in your local Rotary group.

Not only will the annual community raffle be drawn at the Jubilee Tavern tonight, but the Rotary Club of Airlie Beach will launch a membership drive.

The raffle is all about the community, giving sporting and non-profit groups the chance to raise as much money as they can without any outlay.

One hundred per cent of all ticket sales are returned to the involved club or organisation as soon as the raffle is drawn.

The year's prizes include $10,000 cash, a master sailing trip with Charter Yachts Australia and more.

The Jubilee Tavern will host up to 150 people from the sporting and non-profit groups who participated in the raffle.

Rotary Club of Airlie Beach president Allan Robinson is also hoping to score a couple of new members on the night.

"It's a very rewarding role," he said.

"The club is very involved in the community and we need more members, new members, to share the load."

They hope to gain young professionals who share the Rotary vision.

Rotary is a worldwide organisation of more than 1.2 million professional men and women who are acknowledged as leaders in their communities and who put the ideal of service into action.

Rotarians pledge to maintain high ethical standards in their vocations and to serve their own communities as they advance international understanding and peace.
