Nine Sea Eagles in under-14 NQ titles
AUSSIE RULES: Local knowledge will come to the fore this weekend when a host of Sea Eagles represents the region in the Mackay under-14's team to contest the North Queensland Championships.
The Whitsunday Sportspark will host the two-day carnival which will feature nine Sea Eagles, including Jayden Clark, Max Cornish, Xander Hall, Mitch Healey, Jake Kennedy, Lachlan Matthews, Callum McMurdo, Logan Milligan and Alex Shultz.
The 24-man squad will play games against Townsville, Capricornia, Cairns and Cape York over the weekend and AFL Mackay regional manager Jeff Neumann said the team would benefit from playing at The Nest.
"The home ground advantage is something we've got up our sleeve. Kicking with the breeze and against it will be something we can use to our advantage," he said.
Neumann also praised the region's development path, highlighting the fact that the majority of the squad hails from the Whitsundays.
"To have so many players come out of one club shows that they've got the right systems in place. What the Sea Eagles are doing is working," he said.
"To have nine players from the Whitsunday Sea Eagles is better for us because they know how each other plays.
"We've picked a well balanced squad which has given us the best preparation to perform on the field."
The Under-14 North Queensland Championships will start at the Whitsunday Sportspark on Saturday.
Mackay plays at noon and 2pm on Saturday before backing-up on Sunday at 9.45am and noon.
