Numbers needed as cricket season kicks off

CRICKET

THE first game of the 2013/14 Cricket season got underway over the weekend at the Proserpine Sporting Complex with a 20/20 scratch match played between Valleys and Warriors.

Batting first, Valleys got off to a good start thanks to newcomer Scott Hunter (46) and Greg Dore (17) putting on 49 runs for the first wicket.

This laid the platform for an excellent innings by David Hobson (49), narrowly missing out on his half century thanks to some great bowling from Theo Brown (3/24 from 4 overs).

Some late hitting from Winston Poid (22) helped Valleys to the total of 5/147 from their 20 overs.

Warriors' batsmen struggled in their reply, with spin bowler Greg Dore (2/7 from 2 overs) dismissing Luke Glindemann (17) just as he was starting to look settled.

A quick succession of wickets followed, before Darren Alderton (23) steadied the ship. Darren's innings was not enough to save the Warriors, with Aaron Regan (3/1 from 2 overs) making light work of the Warriors tail-end to see Valleys claim victory by 64 runs.

This Saturday (26th October) will see the first points of the season on offer.

Teams playing this weekend will be determined by which two teams have the most players available on the day.

Any new or returning players are welcome as teams will require additional players to make up the numbers.

The game will be a 40 overs a side match, with the game commencing at 12:30pm at the Proserpine Sporting Complex (Kelsey Creek Road).

Any new players are welcome to contact Craig Brown (4945 1983) or Aaron Regan (0400 688 417) for further information.
