Nurse wins major award

WHITSUNDAY Health Service Nurse Unit Manager Lisa Milne has won the prestigious Emerging Nurse Leader Award for 2010.

The Association of Queensland Nurse Leaders (AQNL) presented the award at a ceremony in Brisbane last month.

The award honours and recognises Mrs Milne's leadership and commitment to the nursing profession.

Nomination is by peer recognition and only one award is presented each year.

Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said Mrs Milne, who has worked at Proserpine Hospital for more than a decade, was a true leader and very deserving of such recognition at a State level.

“In her 11 years at Proserpine Hospital Lisa has continued to play an invaluable role not only in the delivery of services to the local community, but also as a key team member in supporting her colleagues,” Ms Jarratt said.

“She is well known for caring for her team and recently supported staff during a tragic time when they lost a colleague to cancer.

In receiving the award, Mrs Milne's commitment to team spirit and her efforts to encourage staff to develop areas of professional interest was commended.

She has a strong interest in developing nurse leaders and advocating for the role of the Nurse Unit Managers in the rural environment.

Mrs Milne has received a $1,000 scholarship to be used for professional development and membership to the AQNL.
