'Obsessed' with drugs

A CANNONVALE man has admitted to being "obsessed with cannabis” after he was caught with excessive amounts in his home last year.

On Monday, the Proserpine court heard how police searched the home of Oliver Zveglic, 20, who was asleep in his bedroom on December 30 at 11.10am.

A search revealed a tent with eight large plants and 17 sappling plants inside as well as led lights, fans, pot plants, ballasts, fertilisers and other electrical equipment to assist with plant growth.

Police also found seven clip seal bags containing marijuana seeds purchased from overseas as well as a clip seal bag containing 267.7g of green leafy material and 79 additional seeds hidden in a hole in a wall covered by a picture.

A large water pipe and electric grinder were also found.

During an interview with police, Zveglic admitted to his 'obsession' and calculated he consumed about $3500 worth of marijuana each week.

He said he used it to help him deal with past traumatic experiences and pain.

Zveglic was also charged with failing to appear in court on January 23.

Pleading guilty as charged on Monday, he received a total fine of $2000.
