Officer accused of letting prostitute fondle his Glock

ONE of three senior police officers facing criminal charges over a series of scandals to rock the Tweed/Byron command, is expected to be arraigned in a Sydney court this morning.

Sergeant Mark Garner was on duty when he allegedly had sex with a prostitute in the Kingscliff police station watch house in September, 2011.

The 49-year-old is also accused of allowing his police-issued Glock pistol to be handled.

He is due to appear at Sydney's Downing Centre at 9.30am.

Two others charged over an unrelated internal investigation into Tweed/Byron police ranks, will also be before the courts in coming weeks.

Discharged Detective Inspector Shane Diehm, who left with full entitlements in 2012, will front a two-day special fixture hearing over allegations he lied to the NSW police watchdog.

The region's former crime manager once tested positive to cocaine at a Sydney party attended by federal police and was investigated as part of an internal operation targeting alleged drug use and supply amongst police officers in Northern NSW and the Gold Coast.

The hearing is listed to begin in Sydney on Monday, March 24.

The case against his former colleague, Sergeant Roderick Morris, who is also charged with giving false/misleading evidence to the NSW Police Integrity Commission, was mentioned briefly in Sydney earlier this week and will return to court for an expected three-day hearing from April 2.
