Old hand gets new challenge

THE new officer in charge of the Proserpine Police Station has been in town since 2009 but only took over his new role last month.

Mark Flynn brings a host of experience to the job including a stint at the Whitsunday Police Station and time at the Mackay prosecution division.

Sergeant Flynn did his police training in Mareeba and made the move to the Whitsundays to be closer to his family who live in the area.

Sgt Flynn could not remember as a boy wanting to join the police service but he said he enjoyed the challenge of the job and the fact that every day was different.

"I am really enjoying the challenges of the new role and the satisfaction of working with the community," he said.

The new role has enabled Sgt Flynn to gain a better understanding of the great role the staff at the station play within the local community.

He said he believed in fostering community interaction with police and was looking forward to working further with the Proserpine community.

"It's a great community to not only live in but also work in and serve," he said.

When not working, Sgt Flynn enjoys mountain bike riding and fishing.

He has two children and said the best thing about living in the Whitsundays was the weather.
