One punch can kill
THE Whitsunday Bald Eagles have welcomed the Jubilee Tavern as their latest partner in the "One Punch Kills" alcohol awareness campaign.
The campaign, launched just a few weeks ago, centres around the promotion of responsible drinking messages delivered via posters, stubby coolers and static displays.
It was devised and spearheaded by Whitsunday Bald Eagles president Jack Lumby in response to the death of AFL masters legend Bruce Steenson, who was the victim of a one-punch incident that claimed his life.
Manager of the Jubilee Tavern Peter Scott said his establishment supported the Bald Eagles in their positive awareness program and encouraged others to become involved.
"The alternative is a reality that has touched too many of our lives. It is all too common," he said.
Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergent Brad Teys also commended the campaign. "I think it's wonderful and I applaud any effort to raise the general public's awareness of the ills of the over consumption of alcohol," he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Lumby is inviting any individuals or licensed premises who wish to join the campaign to contact him on 0417 628 939. "And don't forget, it's cool to have a cold one mate - just be cool about it," he said.
