One year ago

IT WAS one year ago when the Whisper Bay boat ramp was opened, much to the relief of locals and visitors to the Whitsundays.

The official opening attracted a crowd of politicians, contractors, tradespeople and members of the Whitsunday Volunteer Marine Rescue group.

The Local Government Association of Queensland announced there was no place for "sleaze” in local council election campaigns after election tactics "aimed at damaging individual reputations” were used in the March 19 local council poll.

Former Whitsunday mayor Mike Brunker swung back at rumours that claimed he planned to control council from the sidelines if successful in his bid for Division 6.

And in entertainment, chart toppers DJ Dluxx brought a wave of excitement to the region.
