Open Day at swim school

THIS Sunday Annie's Swim School will be having an Open Day from 10am - 2pm to introduce the newly-launched Airlie Beach Aquatic Reef Club to the wider community.

There will be plenty of fun events for the whole family, including a sausage sizzle and pancakes, jumping castle, activities for kids and random prize draws.

The day will be held at the swimming centre's HQ at 2579 Shute Harbour Road in Jubilee Pocket opposite IGA.

There will also be information about the swim school's activities and how to book your child in for the next block of swimming.

The Airlie Beach Aquatic Reef Club was the brainchild of school owner and director Annie Grunwald who is on a mission to make swimming fun.

"It can get boring swimming up and down lanes, so this group will study marine life and protection, learn to snorkel, water safety and even go out on trips to the reef," she said.

"In my opinion, we live here so that's the lifestyle we should be living."

The group launched a couple of months ago, starting with nine members and now sitting at 30. They strive to meet up once a month and do an activity. Next Sunday they will identify shells at Dingo Beach. Annie's Swim School will also be hosting a Reef Warriors Holiday Day Camp later this month.
