Origin III: Queensland player ratings

Darius Boyd 7½: Produced a try assist for Greg Inglis from close range in fifth minute. Not a heap of other opportunities in attack, but was on the spot again for Queensland's late try, before Michael Jennings responded with the match-winner on the siren.

Corey Oates 7: Physical and so hard to contain when he gets some space. So strong. Like Boyd though, limited opportunities in attack.

Greg Inglis 7½: His 18th Origin try looked so easy after earlier involvement from Queensland magicians Thurston and Boyd. Good steal on Tedesco with danger brewing 20m out. Powerhouse in defence. Rattled Josh Jackson and was outstanding repelling the Blues on his team's left edge.

Justin O'Neill 7: Absolutely terrific in defence when NSW continually shifted the ball in his direction later in the first half. His first Origin series but showed true Maroons spirit when peppered by the Blues in the first half.

Dane Gagai 6½: Excellent in defence combining so well with O'Neill on Queensland's right edge.

Johnathan Thurston 7: Lethal in the opening minutes and involved in Queensland's first try. But found it hard to spark his tired teammates in attack in the second half, apart from setting up Gavin Cooper's try.

Cooper Cronk 6: Unfairly sin-binned for a professional foul in 31st minute but his teammates courageously dug in for him.

Matt Scott 6: Some tough metres when required.

Cameron Smith (capt) 8½: Nice vision out of dummy-half as always. Outstanding in attack and tough in defence. Never got flustered with his team at times unfairly slammed in the penalty count. Smart touch-finder in the 35th minute after his team's enormous defensive work.

Nate Myles 6: Tough again in his 31st Origin. Some signs that he's not done with yet at this level.

Matt Gillett 7: Enormous in defence, as usual.

Sam Thaiday 5: Loose carry in eighth minute and did not rack up a heap of metres with the ball.

Corey Parker 7: Penalised trying to milk a penalty. But a high involvement in defence and ball-played nicely. Would you have expected anything different in his final Origin?

INTER:

Gavin Cooper 7: His brilliant Cowboys club combination with Thurston came to the fore to run off the little maestro and score, putting the Maroons back in the hunt.

Josh McGuire 7 ½: Good metres and plenty of tackling. Remember this guy only made his Origin debut last year. What a player.

Aidan Guerra 5½: Like his teammates, courageous in defence.

Jacob Lillyman 6½: Plenty of tackles when NSW had stacks of ball.
