THE Airlie Beach Music Festival's first Original Sundays event has been touted as a huge success, with over 400 people turning out to watch seven acts performing their own original music at Airlie's Magnums Hotel on Sunday.

Event organiser Andrew Pattinson said all acts were very well received and music fans of all ages were up dancing and enjoying the mini festival atmosphere.

"All acts were treated to at least one standing ovation each and the youngest act, Sam McCann, found it hard to leave the stage with crowds chanting 'more, more, one more'," Mr Pattinson said.

"All the acts involved with the show were on cloud nine afterwards and were amazed at the crowd reactions."

Local legend Kieran McCarthy was the perfect choice to start the afternoon and treated the crowd to an exclusive preview of his soon-to-be released sixth studio album 'Flash as a Rat'.

He was followed by other equally talented acts such as The Mirror Moves and Rebelquin.

Airlie Beach Music Festival promoter Gavin 'Butto' Butlin said he was extremely happy with the turn out.

"It was great to see so many people come out for this - we had mums, dads, kids and grandmas turning up and rocking out - Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays has no shortage of original talent and the music fans saw that on Sunday," he said.

Based on the success of this inaugural event, Mr Butlin said he hoped to squeeze another Original Sundays event in before the main festival, from November 7-9.

Meanwhile he thanked the Airlie Beach Music Centre "for an awesome job on the sound" and the staff at Magnums "for giving us the chance to play original [songs]".

Leonie Smith, who was holidaying from South Australia was the lucky winner of a three-day ticket to the Airlie Beach Music Festival, won simply by attending Sunday's event.

Ms Smith said she couldn't wait to return in November and would be bringing three friends.

"It was a wonderful afternoon and winning a ticket just made my day" she said.
