Owner of jewellery found is “beyond relieved”

THE owner of lost jewellery now found at Shute Harbour has been identified and to say she was relieved would be an understatement.

"I'm beyond relieved and I'm so grateful for people being honest," she said.

This morning, a green felt bag containing four distinct and valuable rings was handed in to the Whitsunday Police Station and it didn't take long for the owner to come forward.

The Airlie local of 13 years, who didn't want to be named, was enjoying her Saturday morning at a beach in Shute Harbour when she lost her rings.

However, she didn't realise she'd lost them until yesterday afternoon.

The woman, who is in her early 50s, said the rings were irreplaceable and were of sentimental value to both her and her husband of 33 years.

"It's so reassuring for the human race and it's amazing to know there's some lovely people out there," she said.

"I'm going to give (the woman who handed them in) a gift when I find out who she is because she deserves one."
