Paddlers take on a Kanu Klassic

OUTRIGGER: Outrigger Whitsunday paddlers competed at the inaugural GKI Kanu Klassic hosted by Capricorn Coast Outrigger Canoe Club at the weekend.

Strong competition on the beautiful waters around Great Keppel Island saw teams from as far south as Mooloolaba and north from Townsville vie for top spot in the 20km OC2 and OC1 marathon, the 14km OC6 marathon and junior events.

With a field of 36 canoes, Henri Mauri and Joe Wilson were a very impressive third over the line but second in the senior master men's division OC2 20km marathon event in a time of 1:54:43.

Mark Bell and Ashley Kennedy not far behind with twelfth over the line and third place with 2:04:12.

Open women OC2 partners Nicole Brown and Cassandra Angel were 26th over the line but took second place in their division with a time of 2:17:40.
