Passers-by save mother's life

A CANNONVALE woman whose 50-year-old mother suffered a heart attack on Shute Harbour Rd last Sunday wants to say a big "thank you" to the passers-by who saved her mother's life.

Bronwyn Ludbrook was walking from MacArthur Drive to Centro Whitsunday shopping centre with her mother and two children at about 10.18am, when the incident occurred. Ms Ludbrook said her mother had no pre-existing heart conditions and had not been complaining of chest pain, yet suddenly became dizzy and collapsed. Ms Ludbrook said a couple, who were driving by at the time stopped almost immediately to offer assistance and were able to take the children from the scene.

"Then the second car that stopped had nurses in it. They didn't even ask questions, they just started CPR straight away. They brought her back," she said.

Ms Ludbrook, whose full attention was concentrated on her mother, said she had no idea who these people were but really wanted to say "thanks".

"They're the reason that she's still here," she said.

Ms Ludbrook's mother was transported by ambulance to Proserpine Hospital, then airlifted to Townsville, where she is now in a stable condition and recovering.

"She's doing amazing," Ms Ludbrook said.
