Pay next time, man on theft charge told

A MAN charged with stealing a $2.10 box of staples from an Ipswich newsagent was ordered to place the cash on the shop's counter the next time he went in.

Keith McDonald faced Ipswich Magistrates Court after he was captured on CCTV leaving the newsagent without paying for a box of staples.

McDonald told the court he did not remember the incident.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist asked McDonald if he had simply paid the $2.10 to the shop owner, to which McDonald replied no.

"Put a gold coin and a little silver coin on the counter and walk out," he said.

McDonald was placed on a three-month good behaviour bond.
