Perfect start for SUP Challenge

THE Whitsundays has been putting on a show this week for the second annual Whitsunday SUP Challenge.

Arriving in town on the weekend, racers headed out for a week of sailing and paddle boarding.

The first of four races saw paddlers go head-to-head from Stonehaven Anchorage to Langford Island, with Jervis Bay couple Jason and Melissa McManus claiming the men's and women's wins.

Hook and Hayman Islands provided relief for Tuesday's rest day, before getting back into the competition for Whitehaven Wednesday.

A good laugh was had by all, with a number of fun races - including a blind-paddler race - providing the humour.

Today the paddlers are again resting up and taking in the natural wonders that are Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet.

The Whitsunday Passage waits to welcome them tomorrow, with paddlers set to tackle a gruelling 15km course from Hamilton Island Marina to South Molle Island.

With winds expected to exceed the 20 knot mark, the paddlers will have their work cut out for them.

The challenge finishes on Saturday with a race about 10am going from Abell Point Marina, around the Whitsunday Magic wreck and back.
