Perth win grand final birth
PERTH Glory have clinched the second grand final berth after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Central Coast Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday night.
Midfielder Michael McGlinchey was the unfortunate man to miss for the Mariners as he blasted his penalty high over the crossbar with the scores locked at 1-1 after extra time.
Perth skipper Jacob Burns converted the winning spot-kick to send the Glory into their first A-League grand final, where they will face Brisbane Roar at Lang Park on April 22.
Adam Kwasnik had given the Mariners the lead in regulation time in Gosford, capitalising on a defensive error from Travis Dodd to blast home from a corner.
But Perth equalised almost immediately when Billy Mehmet broke the offside trap and played in Shane Smeltz to tap home.
