Car significantly damaged in petrol tanker collision

UPDATE: A small sedan involved in a two-vehicle collision on James St has been significantly damaged in the incident which closed the roadway.

The rear of the Mitsubishi Lancer sedan appeared to have crumbled on impact between it and a petrol tanker in the mid-morning incident.

Emergency services closed one eastbound lane of James St between Ruthven and Neil Sts as the incident scene was cleared.

Police worked to divert traffic around the area and avoid delays.

The sedan was towed from the scene.

The petrol tanker appeared to have sustained little damage.

Toowoomba Council street sweeping crews cleared glass and debris from the intersection of Ruthven and James St.

The eastbound lanes have since reopened to all traffic.

EARLIER: Eastbound lanes of James St between Ruthven and Neil Sts have been reduced to one lane as a crash scene is investigated.

Emergency services have closed one lane of the busy roadway after a collision between a petrol tanker and a small sedan.

Fire crews and police remain at the scene of the incident which was reported about 9.15am by a passer-by.
