AUSSIE RULES: The odds are in Whitsunday Sea Eagles' favour after they defeated Mackay City Hawks at the weekend, for the third time this season.

It's been the battle of these two tops teams all year with Whitsunday only dropping one game to the Hawks.

They kept their form in last weekend's semi finals, defeating the Hawks 74-34.

It's been five years since the Sea Eagles have played finals footy and seven since they won a flag.

"There's that burning desire to get in and do well,” Whitsunday coach Luke Sommerville said.

"The club and the boys are looking forward to the challenge.”

The team is also looking forward to the week off.

"We have a couple of little niggling injuries for a couple of players,” Sommerville said.

"So we need to make sure they're right to go for the grand final.”

He said it will be good to sit back and watch Hawks play next weekend.

"Hopefully they have a bit of a tough game,” he said.

Sommerville said said they won their semi final by putting more pressure on the Hawks.

"We were just a little bit quicker than them,” he said.
