Pictures honour Chicky's sparkle

A FORMER Whitsunday Times photographer, Kerrin "Chicky" Pacey has died, aged 58. Chicky will be mourned by many.Originally from Tasmania, Chicky was on an around-Australia trip in 1975 when she discovered the Whitsundays and became an integral part of the eclectic and close-knit community here.

Chicky was a founding member of local social and sports club RAG Ent (Rough As Guts Enterprises). Chicky's lens documented the many RAG fundraising events that helped out the primary school and the new ambulance substation. Friend and RAG president Ashley Kennedy said Chicky's many photographs were the only proof of those memorable times.

"The area had no TV, no police. Thankfully, these photos allow others to remember those people and events that made Airlie back in those early days," she said. Chicky's daughter Kiera said there were eight cameras in Chicky's collection. "But she really only used her trusty Pentax." A prolific poet and artist, Chicky's last poem was written four months before her death from cancer on May 28. "Remember me with the sparkle of my soul in my eyes and not in the falsehood of death's disguise," the poem read.
