Pioneers in print

LOCAL history buffs are in for a treat with tomorrow's release of the eagerly awaited 'Pioneers of Airlie Beach'.

The book, a second volume on the development of Airlie Beach and the pioneers who made it happen, has been compiled by local resident Dale Hell and will be officially launched at the Cannonvale Library tomorrow, Friday, March 27, at 2pm.

Whitsunday mayor Jennifer Whitney said interested members of the community were invited to come along.

"Local identity Dale Hell compiled [this] book, which follows on from her successful 'Pioneers of Airlie Beach' published in 2014," she explained.

"Both books provide an interesting insight into the transformation of Airlie Beach from a small fishing and holiday village to the major tourist destination it is today."

Cr Whitney said packed with stories and photographs from the early days, Volume 2 included a few very early stories as well as contributions about the 1960s to 1980s growth period.

"I encourage interested parties to come along on Friday to preview the book and share in her success."

Light refreshments will be served and bookings are not required.
