Pirates and Parrot heads gather at Shag Islet

THIS year the Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club will welcome visitors from as far away as Key West, in Florida, for what is set to be an epic 2016 Rendezvous.

The SICYC Rendezvous is held over three days, from August 25-28, on a small island in the Gloucester Passage north of Airlie Beach.

The theme of this year's Rendezvous dress on Saturday is Parrot Heads - the term Parrot Head refers to fans of Jimmy Buffett - and, on Sunday, the theme will be pirates.

On Thursday, August 25, the Rendezvous will open with a meet-and-greet at Montes Reef Resort where you can also register for the Hands Across the Blue event and get your meal tickets for Saturday night.

Day two on Friday kicks off with some tai chi on the beach before the Shag Islet Party gets underway at noon.

Fly your kite, be entertained and be there for the cutting of the Rendezvous cake before the judging of the Best Dressed Boat by Night, which will be from 7-8pm.

Friday will include see the Hands Across the Blue event, which raises money for research into finding a cure for prostate cancer.

Judging of the best Parrot Head Guy and Girl will be from 5.30pm before and the Quantum Sails fireworks display will set the night on fire after dinner.

The SICYC has saved the best until last, as the final day of the Rendezvous sees the drawing of the raffle - first prize is a totally restored Parrot Head-wrapped HQ Holden.
