Plan for cruise passenger return

SINCE Cyclone Debbie hit the Whitsundays there have been no cruise ship visitors to Proserpine.

The closure of the Whitsunday Gold Coffee plantation has meant all cruise ship tours to Prosperine have so far been on hold.

Included in the package tour of Whitsunday Gold was a visit to the Proserpine Museum.

But secretary of the Proserpine Historical Museum, Gaye Gillies, said negotiations with the cruise line Bob Wood Cruises to get passengers back had begun.

"We are waiting to see what we can do. We will put a whole new tour together if we can and present it to them and they will decide what they are going to do,” she said.

The museum has enlisted the help of the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce to work on a proposal to submit to the cruise line.

"And we want to work with the businesses in Prosperine to see if they want to get on board to make it a better and longer tour in Proserpine. That is what we are going to be working on,” Ms Gillies said.

Passengers travelling with Inter Cruises will be continuing their regular Whitsunday hinterland tours in November.
