New servo and supermarket planned for Benaraby

BENARABY could get a supermarket as part of new service station complex to be built on the Bruce Hwy.

Developer Martin Spinks has lodged an application with Gladstone Regional Council to build a new Caltex on four hectares of vacant land opposite the QCV caravan park.

The site has already been home to a Mobil service station, but that closed in 1988.

This new centre has been two years in the making, and plans show there will be seven dedicated truck parking spaces, restaurants and an array of shops.

The project is expected to create 50-100 jobs once all stages are built, and another 50 during construction, which should start this year.

Mr Spinks is yet to approach tenants but he is confident of ticking all the boxes, and has earmarked a 900sq m space on the application for a supermarket.

"Residents are saying they'd love to have a small scale supermarket, so we've included that in the plans," Mr Spinks said.

"This new centre could really give Benaraby a nice little business hub, and having a supermarket will save people having to drive into Boyne or Gladstone just to get a few groceries."

Noise concerns for nearby residents have also been addressed.

An acoustic barrier will be set up on parts of the site, namely surrounding the truck parking bays.

"That will definitely improve the situation for the residents, because at the moment they have no protection and all you can hear is trucks screaming past."
