Plaza’s gift wrapping serves a treat to PCYC

GENEROSITY was out in force on Tuesday morning when Whitsunday Plaza presented a cheque to the Whitsunday PCYC for a sum of money that was raised from their annual in-store Christmas gift wrapping late last year.

An impressive $5000 was raised from the two weeks in December where the Christmas gift wrapping was held at Whitsunday Plaza with Whitsunday PCYC volunteers.

Event organiser and PCYC Whitsunday patron and life member Gloria DeMartini said this was the eighth year Whitsunday PCYC and Whitsunday Plaza had collaborated for the yearly fundraiser.

"Over the eight years around $40,000 has been raised which has gone to the PCYC bus and new equipment for a variety of programs and kids activities," she said.

PCYC chairman Ron Petterson said over the years the bond between the two centres had only gotten stronger.

"We've had a long association with Federation Centres [Whitsunday Plaza] whose on-going support has gone into helping the PCYC keep doing what it is suppose to be doing," he said.

"We couldn't do anything without places like Whitsunday Plaza."

Whitsunday Plaza manager George Wade said the long-standing friendship had no plans to slow down yet.

"We're a local community shopping centre - this is what we are all about," he said.

"We're certainly proud of the centre and proud of the opportunities we provide for community groups."

"It's definitely a hub for the town."
