Plenty of pooches at Proserpine dog show

MORE than 300 dogs and about 80 owners took part in three championships shows hosted by the Proserpine Whitsunday Obedience and Kennel Club on the weekend.

The event ran from Friday to Sunday at the Proserpine showgrounds and was officiated by international-accredited judges Lanie Knox, Wayne Burton and Patricia Hall, who all made the trip from Sydney.

John King's rottweiler, Blackcombe the Patriot, was named best in show all three days.

Club treasurer Desni Wilkins said all the competitors had really enjoyed themselves and that they looked forward to coming back in the future.

"We've had nothing but positive feedback from everyone and the weekend was a great success. It was a happy and very sportsmanlike environment which is always great to see," she said.

"This club almost closed down in February this year but the present committee have been working their butts off through fundraising and advertising to keep the club going."

Mrs Wilkins thanked everyone who had supported the event with dogs and their owners coming from as far south as Brisbane and as north as Cairns.

"The whole state has really got behind us and it was fantastic to host such a big show here," she said.
