Police blitz targets almost 300 drivers for drugs, alcohol

A targeted police operation has netted almost 300 drivers for roadside breath tests in the Whitsundays.

Senior Constable Joshua Kriston said Collinsville Police ran the four-hour blitz on Thursday testing a total of 296 drivers.

Sen-Constable Kriston said police intercepted a 48-year-old Toyota LandCruiser driver on Scottville Rd in Collinsville about 5.15pm.

“(He) allegedly returned a positive reading and was subsequently transported back to Collinsville Police Station,” Sen-Constable Kriston said.

“The man was later issued with a notice to appear for driving over the general alcohol limit after allegedly returning a result of 0.056 per cent.

“He is scheduled to appear in Bowen Magistrates Court on March 30, to have the matter heard.

“Police will continue to enforce the Fatal Five rules within Collinsville.”
