Police charge Ipswich shooter in Hanson murder investigation

POLICE today charged a 27-year-old male to being an accessory after the fact to the murder of David Hanson as well as interfering with his corpse.

Judd Lees was already in prison for the shooting of a man in Ipswich, when he was charged.

Although police have not located Hanson's body, they will allege the 71-year-old father of four was murdered at an industrial site in Woodridge and his body dismembered and disposed of.

Hanson was last seen alive on 22 February 2014. Over the past decade he had worked and lived between Queensland and Tanzania where he was starting a gem mine with several investors.

Superintendent David Hutchinson said police believe Mr Hanson's murder was motivated around drugs, failed business dealings or both.

"We are also investigating three other persons of interest in relation to this crime," he said. "These suspects are associated with organised crime and some of them have an association with motorcycle gangs."

Superintendent Hutchinson said Mr Hanson had returned to Australia on 18 February after a long spell in Tanzania.

On 22 February, the day he was due to fly back out to Africa, he had breakfast with his daughter and went to his Slacks Creek home to get his passport to wire money to Tanzania.

Mr Hanson then travelled to Autowerks car detailing workshop in Timms Court at Woodridge.

He was not seen alive again.

A $250 000 reward has been offered to anyone who can give information which will lead to the arrest and conviction of the offenders.
