Police charge teenager over alleged sign snatching
WHITSUNDAY Police's investigation into a theft has been carried out to the letter - literally.
Senior Sergeant Nathan Blain said a man has been charged following investigations into the theft of letters from a prominent Whitsunday sign.
"Officers from Whitsunday Police Station executed a search warrant on a Sugarloaf address Friday afternoon and located the stolen letters after receiving information from the public in relation to the alleged incident," he said.
As a result, a 19-year-old Sugarloaf man has been charged with wilful damage and stealing relating to the alleged vandalism of the 'Welcome to Airlie Beach' sign between August 13 and 15.
"A big thank you to everyone who contacted police with information to enable us to quickly locate the offender."
Sen Sgt Blain said the man will appear in the Proserpine Magistrates Court at a later date.
