Police investigating supply of MDMA

WHITSUNDAY Police are investigating the supply of MDMA or ecstasy pills to a number of school leavers in Airlie Beach on Friday night.

Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Teys, said a number of Schoolies were taken ill and presented at the Schoolies Central Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) site on Saturday.

"It is believed over 20 Schoolies were affected," he said.

Act. Snr Sgt Teys said police conducted enquiries and subsequently performed raids at two accommodation houses in Airlie Beach.

An East Mackay man was arrested for supplying MDMA but investigations are continuing.

Act. Snr Sgt Teys said these particular MDMA tablets were "quite distinctive" and he urged anyone with information to come forward.

"Police are also urging the school leavers to come forward and name the people who are supplying these dangerous drugs," he said, adding that this was about Schoolies looking after their mates.
