Police officer allegedly bitten by woman during altercation

POLICE have charged two people following an incident in Airlie Beach.

Officers responded to reports of a street altercation on Shute Harbour Road at 12.05am yesterday.

It's alleged a 32-year-old woman removed signage from a licensed venue on and placed it onto the roadway.

Police will further allege when a security guard attached to the licensed venue moved to retrieve it, he was attacked by a 32-year-old Mackay man, who was known to the woman.

As nearby police officers attempted to intervene in this altercation, they restrained the woman who was allegedly trying to involve herself in the same altercation.

While restraining the woman, it's alleged she bit one of the officers on his right bicep.

Both the woman and the man involved were taken into custody.

A 32-year-old Mackay woman has been charged with the serious assault of a police officer by biting.

She will appear in the Proserpine Magistrates Court on September 19.

The 32-year-old Mackay man has been charged with committing a public nuisance offence.

He will appear in the Proserpine Magistrates Court on the same date.
