Police recover stolen high-performance car

POLICE have identified a "person of interest" in the theft of a $50,000 high-performance car from Proserpine's Crossley Holden dealership last weekend.

Officer in Charge of the Proserpine Police Station, Acting Sergeant Russell Lewis, said police were called to the dealership after the car was stolen from the yard at around 1.20am on Sunday. He said it appeared that the offender had cut the chained gates before entering the workshop area where keys to the stolen vehicle were found.

The car was then driven south and found later that afternoon abandoned near St Lawrence, largely undamaged.

Crossley Holden's dealer principal Ben Hancock said he got the "okay" to retrieve the car on Monday.

Mr Hancock said the 2014 SSV Commodore sedan was "the fastest one I had".

"[And] it's had a work-out," he said.

Mr Hancock praised police for finding and recovering the car so fast.

"They did a great job and I'd like to thank them for that," he said.

Act. Sgt Lewis said police were continuing with their inquiries and had identified a person of interest.

"It appears this stolen vehicle is related to a string of offences by the same offender," he said.
