Mur'bah escapee remains on the run

UPDATE: Thursday January29, 9.35am

POLICE have confirmed they are still searching for a man who escaped from custody in Murwillumbah on Wednesday afternoon. 

Reports came through on Wednesday evening that Joshua Mead, 27, had returned to police custody. 

However, Tweed-Byron LAC Inspector Gary Cowan said as of about 9.30am Thursday, Mead had still not been located. 

"He hasn't been found, but we are still looking," Insp Cowan said. 

It is understood Mead faced Murwillumbah Local Court on Wednesday on property charges before escaping from custody just after 4pm. 

He is known to frequent the Murwillumbah, Northern NSW and Southern Gold Coast areas. 

Anyone who sights Mead has been urged to contact Triple-0 immediately. 

 

UPDATE 9.50pm: There is an unconfirmed report that Joshua Mead is now back in police custody.

ORIGINAL REPORT: POLICE have appealed for assistance to locate a man who escaped from custody in Murwillumbah on Wednesday afternoon. 

Mead, 27, left Murwillumbah Police Station about 4.10pm after facing the court on property charges, police said. 

He was described as Caucasian appearance with heavily tattooed legs, 180cm, of medium build with blue/grey eyes. 

He has fair hair and an unshaven appearance. 

Anyone who sights Joshua Mead or has information on his whereabouts should contact Triple Zero immediately.

It is understood an extensive search for Mead extended throughout the afternoon.
